DISCOVER DALMATIA

When travelling to Northern Dalmatia there are a number of towns that would most definitely be worth a visit. These towns are filled with a rich history and beautiful sights seen nowhere else in the world. From medieval churches and Roman ruins to modern architecture, this region is filled with unique and quirky spots that will surprise and leave visitors in awe.

Zadar

This town dates back to the 7th Century so you can be sure that it is bursting with ancient relics and architecture such as the Roman Forum, the Church of St. Donatus and you can also find remains of a Roman aqueduct. If you seek cultural enlightenment then you can also visit some of Zadar’s most popular museums including the National Museum, the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Ancient Glass. Explore the old town, but do not forget to check out the Sun Salutation, created by local architect Nikola Bašić. Collecting energy from the sun during the day, it allows visitors to enjoy a light show that is supposed to simulate the solar system. Have a seat by the Sea Organs and enjoy an ice cream, watching the boats pass as you listen to the soothing sounds of the hypnotic tones produced by the sea’s waves. Whatever you do, don’t miss a Zadar sunset, said to be the best in the world by Alfred Hitchcock.

Šibenik

This charming city is filled with medieval treasures including the likes of a 16th Century Renaissance cathedral, fine churches and two ancient fortresses. Dating back to the 11th Century, the town is visited by people who like to go off the beaten track and not fall into tourist traps. Explore St. Anne’s Fortress as well as the Old Town Hall and don’t forget to check out St James’ Cathedral. If you are a Game of Thrones fan then this will be a perfect destination for you as a number of episodes we filmed at the same cathedral and in other spots of the charismatic city.

Nin

This ancient town is filled with both modern and traditional pleasantries to uncover. Nin is a small island that is situated in the midst of a shallow lagoon that is joined to the mainland by two bridges. There are gems here you cannot afford to miss like St. Nicholas Church, the Church of the Holy Cross and the Stone Bridge and Old Gate. Because of its unique positioning and structure, the favorable winds will most often allow you to enjoy in various sporting activities such as parasailing, wind surfing and the increasingly popular kite surfing. Make sure to visit the Queen’s Beach in Nin and relish in the medicinal properties that is found in the mud there.

Biograd na Moru

Dating back to the 10th Century, Biograd was once the town where Croatian kings had their coronations. Today, this place offers an ideal location if you want to get away from some of the more crowded tourist destinations on the coast. The crystal clear waters allow for a majestic marine outing so you can enjoy in the natural wealth of this location. You can take part in various activities such as sea kayaking, sailing, buggy tours, diving or why not take a traditional cooking class and discover your culinary talents? These classes are run in both Croatian and English, so the language barrier won’t be an issue. The Fun Park in Biograd will ensure a day of adventure and entertainment for the whole family with rides, magicians, circus performers and arcade games keeping you busy for the whole day.
